Computer games have always been a part of computer systems.  Even the old IBM 386 mainframes came supplied with games like hangman, checkers, and Star Trek on their SYS1 partitions.  Microsoft continued this tradition and probably the most played computer game is "Solitaire".  The person who developed that game for Microsoft is...well, you can read his story by clicking here.   The only cheat I know of for Solitaire is used when the cards are being dealt three-at-a time.  If you hold down the ALT-CTRL-SHIFT keys at the same time, the cards will be dealt one-at-time.  This doesn't guarantee a win, but it does help.  And since we're at it, the Minesweeper cheat is to press the following keys, in order, when you have the game opened: x y z z y Shift Enter. The very first pixel on your monitor in the upper left hand corner will turn white when your mouse cursor is on a square with no mines, and will not be white when you are on a mine square.  There is a hack for Hearts but it involves editing the registry so I'll let you Google that to find out how to do it.

The games on this page  are written in Javascript.  The code for these games, and many others, are available for free at several Javascript sites such as The Javascript Source, and Javascript Kit.  Also available, for free, at these sites is Javascript code for many other useful functions such as backgrounds, buttons, calendars, scrolling, and more.  If you are planning a WEB site, these are great places to go for free code.

Games:

This is the classic Battleship game. Find the enemy ships and blow 'em up.  It's you vs. the computer.

"Breakout" is a cute little arcade game in which you paddle a ball against 5 rows of 8 rectangles in an effort to wipe out all the rectangles.  You move the paddle by moving your mouse (you can even put english on the ball).  The game starts out in FAST mode so you might want to click on "SLOW DOWN" until you get good at it.

Good old fashioned Checkers.  You play the RED pieces and start the game.  I doubt the computer will beat you, but if you get sloppy you will be embarrassed. There are still a few bugs in this program, but hopefully you won't find them.

This isn't "Chess Master 9000", but at least it's free.  It only goes two moves deep and has trouble identifying possible checkmates, so you'd better not lose to this game.  If it's been a tough day and you feel like kicking some computer butt, this is the game for you.  Like the "Checkers" game, this still has a few bugs which may require you to either click on the "Reload" button or just quit and do something productive.

This is a simple reaction tester.  You click on the "Start" button and sometime in the near future the background will change color.  When this happens you click on "Stop".  The program will tell you your response time.

The "Same Game" is a collection of Red, Blue, and Yellow balls that are randomly scattered on the screen.  Moving your mouse over the balls will identify grouping patterns.  When you click on a pattern, the balls are removed from the screen and you score points.  The more balls you can remove on one click, the more points you get.  The game ends when either there are no more balls or when there are no more patterns.
